ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE ACADEMICS
Lipscomb University's Institute for Sustainable Practice supports two interdepartmental majors:
one in environmental science and one in sustainablity.
Students undertake a course of study that gives them a broad background in environmental science and law, biology, chemistry, economics, and management. Additional coursework is then taken in the particular area of emphasis.
The small class sizes at Lipscomb allow for greater interaction between faculty and students. Faculty members are caring and actively involved in the lives and the academic and personal development of their students.

Non-traditional field studies are encouraged in addition to traditional classroom and laboratory courses. Every May, students have the option to participate in a field trip to a unique U.S. ecosystem. Along with studying the local plant and animal life, students often have the opportunity to interact with scientists or citizens who are stakeholders in that particular ecosystem. We've had a student participate in an international educational research program in Kenya. |
"The more focused class sizes allowed me to not only receive more attention during my studies but also allowed me to develop deeper relationships with my professors outside of the class setting." - O. Slaughter, Graduate
Lipscomb's Environmental Science graduates have gone on to successful careers in the environmental arena and to graduate school. Our graduates have found well-paying careers in a variety of environmental endeavors and many have gone on to complete advanced degrees.
